In February of 2016, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) began preparing its next strategic growth plan. Whenever possible HSTC looks to work with experts in the field and reached out to the University of Florida Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at the School of Veterinary Medicine to see if a partnership could be arranged.  The Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program works with similar sized animal shelters around the country and provides expert medical and operational assistance. HSTC entered into a yearlong working partnership. Three experts conducted a review of all HSTC’s operations and provided a variety of recommendations including some that may be in line with our strategic goals. Among their observations:

  • “We have found the group to be open to our presence and suggestions, transparent about their needs, and eager to learn of the latest research and best practices for animal shelters.”

  • “We are impressed and inspired by the life-saving accomplishments of HSTC.”

  • “Our intention is to give a framework for elevated success as you strive for your mission. As such, these are truly recommendations based on your work, knowledge of, and experience with animal shelters. It is the purview of the board, leadership, and staff to consider these recommendations, and implement as you see fit based on your mission and as may be practical within the scope of your strategic plan and finances.”
