Bring a pet “Home for the Howlidays”
Palm City, Fla. — The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) is counting on the public to bring some joy to their shelter pets this holiday season. The goal is to place all of the available animals in a foster home Dec. 21, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014. The shelter is located at 4100 SW Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City. Adoption hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Sat.; 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Wed.; and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sun.
Individuals must complete the appropriate foster paperwork and requirements before taking a pet home. Starting at 10 a.m., Dec. 21, approved foster families may come to the shelter and choose an animal in the adoption area. The animals must be picked up no later than 2 p.m., Tues., Dec. 24. The foster parents, or “guardian angels,” will be encouraged to help the HSTC find a permanent home for their foster pet. All animals need to be adopted or returned back to the shelter by Sun., Jan. 5, 2014.
The HSTC prefers that participants provide food bowls, bedding and toys for their foster pet, but the shelter will assist if needed. Through last year’s program, the HSTC fostered 22 animals and all were adopted. The HSTC is hoping to double that this year. Eventually, all the animals that were included in this program were adopted.
“No pets will be placed on hold so it is a first come, first served basis,”
said HSTC Operations Manager Candice Veach.
