Stuart, Fla./July 30, 2012 — Pet owners can get a jump start on the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast’s 10th annual Mutt March, presented by the Petco Foundation. Pre-registration begins on Aug. 23 at Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill in downtown Stuart, 61 W. Osceola St., and Jensen Beach, 2019 Jensen Beach Blvd., from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Adult registration for the Mutt March is $10; children 15 and under are free and include a limited edition T-Shirt and a coupon book to local participating businesses. Mulligan’s will donate 10 percent of that night’s proceeds to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC), so organizers are encouraging the whole family to come out and enjoy dinner and activities. Kids 12 and under may dress as a dog or a cat and they’ll eat for free (with the purchase of an entrée and a children’s beverage). Children’s activities include interacting with Spongedog, balloons, face painting, crafts and toys.

This year’s Mutt March will be held on Sat., Oct. 27, at Memorial Park, 100 SE Ocean Blvd., in Stuart. Each year, hundreds of people and their creatively costumed dogs participate in this event, which has become one of the HSTC’s most popular fundraising events. The fun will kick off at 9 a.m. with registration and a free pancake breakfast from IHOP and will continue with a short walk around the park. Activities for the day include a canine costume contest, the flea-less market, a dog race that will entitle the winner to “bragging rights” at the annual Mutt Derby hosted by the Fur Seasons Resort for Pets, and Lure Coursing by Rabbit Run LLC. Participants also can make a memory at the HSTC photo booth by JC Penney Life Touch Portraits, and there will be face painting, pumpkin decorating, adoptions and more.

Sponsors to date include PETCO Foundation, Hills Science Diet, Rick Carroll Insurance, Apex Pavers, Eventmakers, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Goldstein, Schmitt & Wade, PL.

Pre-registrations and donations also may be made online by going to People also can build and create their own fundraising page in a few easy steps, then tell their friends and family to log on and support their efforts. While the HSTC’s animals greatly benefit from this event, business sponsors benefit as well whether they sponsor with dollars or encourage their employees to walk as a team and raise funds for the animals.
