As a Dog Walking volunteer, you must exhibit a commitment to providing a good example of responsible pet ownership. You must have the knowledge to educate the public concerning the responsibilities of pet ownership and agree to act as an ambassador for the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast. Your interaction with our furry guests will provide them with exercise, mental stimulation and much needed human contact.
You may also be asked to support the kennel staff with a variety of tasks ranging from kennel-cleaning to presentation of pets to prospective adopters.
Requirements:
The position of a Dog Walker volunteer requires on-site training with a qualified HSTC trainer. There are two class levels for the Safety Class program These classes are scheduled from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m. every Thursday and 2:00-3:00 every Sunday.
Once you have been passed by your HSTC trainer as being proficient, you can schedule your first dog-walk under the supervision of a mentor. If you do not pass as proficient, you may be required to complete additional training sessions or be asked to offer services in another area of the shelter.
(Remember to begin your service with us, you must attend an orientation and be scheduled for training by the Volunteer Coordinator)
If you would like to schedule an orientation or have more questions about volunteering, please contact Bitsy McKay at bmckay@hstc1.org or call (772) 600-3217. To return to the Volunteer Main Page click here.
