Mutt Derby 2013

Fur was flying and tails were wagging during the sixth annual Mutt Derby at The Fur Seasons Pet Resort in Stuart. One hundred sixty dogs of all sizes and breeds raced toward the finish line, not knowing that their efforts were raising money for the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC). But their owners were aware, and their entry fees along with proceeds from the doggie swim party, a silent auction and a raffle, totaled $11,350 — the most this event has ever raised for the HSTC’s shelter animals.

Critters to take the main spotlight during Humane Society adoption special Palm City, Fla. — Move over dogs and cats — the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) will be shining the spotlight on critters of all kinds from July 20 to 22. That’s when adoption discounts will be applied to rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and pocket pets that are currently making their homes at the HSTC’s shelter, 4100 SW Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City. The discounted adoption fee during this promotion for rabbits is $10; guinea pigs, $6; and ferrets, $20. The fee for a pocket pet is just $2. Rabbit spay/neuter vouchers also will be on sale for $20. On Sat., July 21, critter lovers also can take advantage of critter experts Tracie Harris and Sara Kyle, who will be on hand to answer any questions about care or health. Critters to take the main spotlight during Humane Society adoption special

Stuart, Fla. — Dogs will be strutting their stuff on a catwalk during the Mother’s Day Doggie Fashion Show and Luncheon, presented by the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC). Fashion models, along with the HSTC’s pet therapy volunteers and their pets, will show off the latest styles from Harbour Bay Plaza’s fine apparel stores. The event will take place on Fri., May 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Renato’s Italian Ristorante & Grille, located at Harbour Bay Plaza at 3720 SE Ocean Blvd., in Sewall’s Point. The cost is $40 per person. Humane Society of TC Among Winners of Pethealth Inc. Contest

The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) has been declared one of three winners in Pethealth Inc.’s Destination Adoption contest. The contest’s purpose was to encourage the increased use of video, photos, and descriptions in adoptable pet profiles that target the online community.

Humane Society of TC Among Winners of Pethealth Inc. Contest

As with last summer, the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is reaching overcrowded conditions at its Palm City shelter. To encourage summer adoptions, the HSTC is once again offering its “Priceless Pets Promotion” — a program that invites qualified adopters to name their price to adopt the dog or cat of their choice. The normal adoption fee is $90 for dogs and $35 for cats. All reasonable offers will be accepted. The program will begin July 1 and continue until the shelter returns to its normal capacity.

Jingle all the way to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast’s (HSTC) Thrift Store for the sixth annual “Christmas in July” Extravaganza that starts Saturday, July 9 and continues through Saturday, July 16. Sponsored by Eventmakers International, the Santa overload features more than 5,000 items in stock. The Thrift Store is located at 2585 SE Federal Highway in Stuart and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Mother's Day goes to the dogs with a "Doggie Fashion Show"

The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast celebrated mothers of both two-legged and four-legged “children” at its inaugural Mother’s Day Lunch and Doggie Fashion Show.

The event, held May 5 at Renato’s Italian Ristorante & Grille in Sewall’s Point, raised $3,240 to benefit the animals at its Palm City shelter.
