SHELTER TALES-Humane Society plans spa day for bunnies and guinea pigs

By Shaun Kelly, HSTC Volunteer

Every “bunny” deserves a spa day, right? The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast will be hosting a spa day for bunnies and guinea pigs on Sat., July 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the main shelter, 4100 SW Leighton Farm Ave., Palm City. Complimentary brush outs and nail trims will be provided for a donation to the shelter.

This event also is meant to showcase our adoptable critters, particularly the bunnies. As the area’s only shelter that accepts small animals, our humane society is bursting at the seams with bunnies, guinea pigs and hamsters. There are currently approximately a dozen bunnies in active adoption and almost 20 more awaiting spay/neuter and vet clearance for adoption. The bunnies currently in the shelter’s care range in age from two months to 10 years.

Always wanting to encourage folks to adopt — not shop — potential adopters should know that all Humane Society of the Treasure Coast bunnies are spayed or neutered before being placed for adoption. In addition, our knowledgeable staff and volunteers provide free tips to new adopters on how to care for your new bunny.

Another service offered by critter staff and volunteers is what they refer to as “speed dating for bunnies.” If you’re thinking of a companion for your current rabbit, you can arrange to bring your bunny in to the shelter and they will assist in selecting a compatible match, as this species can be picky about their friends.

Come on out on Saturday for the shelter spa day or to meet our adoptable bunnies and other critters. They love visitors!

The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast does not euthanize healthy, adoptable animals to create space or place any time limits on its adoptable animals. For more information, visit http://www.hstc1.org or call (772) 223-8822.
